I passed my practical and written exams, for the state of Michigan!! I am officially a licensed esthetician !!!

Disappointed

I'm pretty disappointed in the distributor I ordered airbrush supplies from. I placed $123 order and only got $50 worth of product(which were not the colors I needed most). I contacted them right away to see what happened, and they said they were sorry and they'd over night the other products to me. Well, four nights later and nothing, not even an email. I did check my bank statement and the full amount was charged to my card. I forwarded that line from my statement, showing them the charge and thanked them for their prompt resolution. Hope it's not too bitchy, but, damn....I even met this chick and she seemed like a reputable source. I hope they fix this...AND...the kicker...I ordered a "pro-card" from them, which will give me discounts on FUTURE items, so, that goes to waste if I don't use it...wth?

On a lighter note, my free samples from Bioelements came in today. They sent them out as a congratulations, for completing my program and learning their protocol. I am pleased to say I also got the "Student of the Year" award, which just equaled out to more samples, but, that's all good:)

Halloween Makeup

Booked my first Halloween client of the year!! I wish it was Halloween all year long! It has always been a family tradition to dress up for Halloween, you could say it's "in my Blood", lol. I love the process of art...I say it all the time But I DO! I love to research different ideas and looks, try out new products and techniques...I know I'm a dork.. Anyway, I hope that this is just one of many I will book this year, BRING IT ON!!

New Products-New Life

So, I am trying to build my product base...I want to be ready for whatever opportunities come my way. So far: huge shadow collection, more airbrush foundation colors(Dinair), Fantasy colors (for airbrush), Special FX makeup (Halloween's around the corner)...also purchased Ceripil Blue Hard wax...perfect for nostrils ;) Super excited to get the ball rolling. I need a change of pace. Business Cards should arrive this week and will be registering for boards also! New life here I come!!

Graduation Day!

Last day of school! Picked up my Diploma today, along with 3 specialty certificates: Makeup Artistry; Hot Stone Therapy, Relaxation Massage,and Reflexology Massage; Lash and Brow Tinting, Lash Perming.

400 hours

It's official, I've completed my 400 hrs required to obtain my Esthetics License in the state of Michigan! Completing my course with a 4.0 and making the Dean's list I might add:) Hoping to register for state boards this week.
I will be headed back to class for the fall. I will be gaining hours for the possibility of moving and transferring my license to another state. (most states require more than 400)..might as well get them now, while I'm still fresh from school. Eventually I'd like to get my instructor's license.

Pricing, How much am I worth?

I am trying to build my business. I've finished my degree. I will take state boards soon. I've ordered my business cards, they're on their way. I started this blog to put myself out there. I even made a facebook "fan" page.(which feels conceited btw) NOW, how much am I worth?
I love makeup, but, I have to make some money in order to thrive in this business. I hate to charge money after seeing happy faces....that seems like payment enough. I want to be competitive, yet affordable and still do flawless work.
Research, research, and more research....now I know why business planners charge SO much. I know the satisfaction I'll have when I can say I did this all by myself. (with the support of my friends and family of course-I'd be nothing without them)
Now back to the "drawing board"....or calculator...I'll let ya know what I come up with.

Trial and Error

I had a 3rd and final trial run with a bride today. She was so very happy with the out come! I loved to see her so happy with my work. I don't know how you could call this work...it is my favorite thing to do. We hit a few bumps along the way, in terms of color decisions, but, it was worth the perseverance. She looked flawless. Can't wait for the big day!
